Lisa Craig, Planner, Chief of Historic Preservation, City of Annapolis

Craig has 25 years of preservation experience in public service, property development and nonprofit leadership at the state and national level.  She spearheaded preparation of a Cultural Resource Hazard Mitigation Plan – identified by the National Trust for Historic Preservation as a national model for resiliency planning – and development of a Cultural Landscape Survey for the Annapolis National Historic Landmark District, the first such plan to be completed in the State of Maryland.  She serves as Director of the MainStreets Annapolis Partnership, which provides services and programs incorporating not only the 4-point approach, but a 5th point, Clean, Safe and Green, which promotes sustainable practices targeted to five traditional business districts in Annapolis.

She served for five years with the National Trust for Historic Preservation before being named the State Historic Preservation Officer for the District of Columbia. Craig earned a bachelor’s degree in historic preservation from Savannah College of Art and Design and a master’s in the field from the University of Oregon.

Craig has also worked to rehabilitate officers housing at the U.S. Air Force Academy, drafted an agreement for the Fort Lawton Historic District in Seattle and developed a public-private equity structure for historic tax credit certification at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii.  As well, she provided technical assistance on design, development, maintenance, Section 106 and historic tax credit activities for more than 350 historic properties within the Company’s historic property portfolio.
