FWA Ponte Vedra Writers Meeting

As the publishing landscape evolves, independent authors have increasing choices in delivering their digital copies to the world. Multi-published award-winning author Sandra McDonald will discuss these options in her workshop, “Picking Your Publishing Platform,” at the FWA Ponte Vedra Writers meeting on Saturday, September 10 at 10:30 a.m. at the Ponte Vedra Library.

McDonald is a former military officer, recovering Hollywood assistant, and perennially patient college instructor who writes across the genres of romance, history, fantasy, science fiction, GLBTQA, and young adult fiction. Her first collection of stories, Diana Comet and Other Improbable Stories, won a Lambda Literary Award for transgender fiction. It was also a Booklist Editor’s Choice, ALA Over the Rainbow book, and Rainbow award winner. Her short fiction has been published in several dozen magazines and anthologies, including the Year’s Best YA, Year’s Best Science Fiction, Year’s Best Science Fiction and Fantasy, Asimov’s Science Fiction, the Magazine of Science Fiction and Fantasy, and more.

In her workshop, McDonald will talk about how some authors “go wide” on as many platforms as possible, which include Kindle, Nook, Draft to Digital, iBooks, Smashwords, Kobo, and more. Other authors “go deep” and stick to Kindle. She said, “We’ll evaluate the current choices out there to help figure out the best platform for you, your readers, and your publishing catalog.”

The Ponte Vedra Writers group is part of the Florida Writers Association, a statewide, non-profit organization with nearly 1,500 members dedicated to the support of both aspiring and published writers in any genre.
