Legendary Horror Film Star Honored at Corazon

     Local St Augustine authors Robert Pohle and Rita Pohle Baldwin will be discussing their new book The Christopher Lee Film Encyclopedia (2017: Rowman & Littlefield) when The Corazon Cinema and Cafe honors the legendary Sir Christopher Lee with a week of screenings June 9-15.

     Lee (1922-2015) made hundreds of films from 1947 to 2015, but will be most warmly remembered for his enormously popular horror, fantasy, science fiction and thriller films.  These ranged from his iconic starring roles as Count Dracula, Frankenstein’s Monster, the Mummy, Fu Manchu and numerous others from the 1950s to the 1970s, to his later appearances in the James Bond, Sherlock Holmes, Lord of the Rings and Star Wars franchises. 

     He also made many memorable appearances in the films of Tim Burton, often with Johnny Depp– and Burton and Depp wrote the Foreword to the new book by Pohle and Baldwin.

     The Corazon Cinema and Cafe (36 Granada St, St Augustine, FL 32084) will be running special screenings of Lee classics for a full week from June 9-15, with Pohle and Baldwin speaking at many of the screenings, discussing his classic films and their definitive new book about them.

     The book is Pohle’s second one about the fabled star, since he previously wrote The Films of Christopher Lee (1983: Scarecrow Press) with Sir Christopher himself, with whom he worked closely for years, along with many of Lee’s unforgettable costars. 

     Pohle, the author of nearly 30 published books, says that this new one is his favorite, because it was done with the coauthorship of his daughter Rita Pohle Baldwin.  Both Pohle and Baldwin have been residents of St Augustine for nearly three decades.
