History on the Streets Saunter

History on the Streets Saunter

Presented by Historic Florida Militia at Unknown

Saturday evening May 6, the historic reenactment community (through a partnership between the Historic Florida Militia, the City of Saint Augustine and the St John's Cultural Council) will be conducting another "History on the Streets" saunter along Saint George Street and the historic area here in Saint Augustine. These saunters are always a lot of fun for the public as well as the participants. Once again, historically clad re-enactors (actually historical interpreters) will walk around the city in an effort to share the rich and diverse history we so love. Through the use of a "timeline saunter" the historians will speak with visitors and residents alike about Saint Augustine's history dating back to its founding in 1565. The one-on-one personal contact is fun for the visitors, many of whom know that Saint Augustine is the oldest city but don't know how we achieved that title.
Participants can wear whatever historically accurate clothing from Saint Augustine's past they choose. Historically accurate is the key. This allows the historical interpreters to explain to, and to show, the visitors to our town the difference between fact and fiction. We encourage the city's guests to take photographs and ask questions.
