Book Talk Cafe CANCELLED

Presented by Friends of the Ponte Vedra Library at Ponte Vedra Library

Book Talk Café returns to the Ponte Vedra Library with author and journalist Jeff Klinkenberg. The award-winning Tampa Bay Times columnist takes readers on an entertaining and enlightening tour of the Sunshine State with his book Alligators in B-Flat, an acclaimed book of essays that meanders through the swamps and back roads of the Sunshine State, stopping to acquaint us with the curious and kooky characters he meets along the way.

Jeff Klinkenberg wrote Florida culture for the Tampa Bay Times for nearly four decades. In 2013, he won a “Green Eyeshade Award” for work that was judged the best feature writing in any Southern newspaper. And in 2007 and 2009, the American Association of Sunday Features Editors selected a body of Klink’s work as the best in the nation. He started working at The Miami News when he was 16 and became a journalism graduate of the University of Florida. He’s in the UF Journalism College’s Hall of Fame.

Previous books, including Pilgrim in the Land of Alligator, Seasons of Real Florida and Dispatches from the Land of Flowers, have been best sellers. A new collection, Son of Real Florida, will come out in 2018.

Carl Hiaasen, another noted Florida author and columnist for The Miami Herald, said, "If Jeff Klinkenberg isn't careful, he might give journalism a good name. He has a rare eye for marvelous detail, and an affectionate ear for those small, wise, bittersweet voices that tell the true story of Florida.’’

Book Talk Café is a presentation of the Friends of the Ponte Vedra Library. The program is free and open to the public. Light refreshments are served, and the author will sign copies of his books.
