  • Lonesome Bert
    Lonesome Bert
Folk Art: Other; Folk Art: Storytelling; Music; Music: Composition; Music: Other; Music: Vocal
Since their St. Augustine debut in 2005, Lonesome Bert & the Skinny Lizards has become an Old City staple. Taking a queue from rebel folk legends such as Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger and Bob Dylan. The paralysis of history may be found in old book bin text but Lonesome Bert Hodge's lyrics takes on old matter and converts it to be the impetus that sparks your mind a new. Each song line is a pathway you take and there are many options to choose from as you bumpity, clankity down the path with Hodge's acoustic fingerpick style and his band of Skinny Lizards: Chris Clark-upright Bass, Steve "Mr. Stiv" Mitherz-Pandario/Cahon and "Captain" Mark Saunders-Fiddle. The meter is pretty fast for this folk music. So, hold on tight and listen up!! Subject matter is everything and details can be easy to miss in the world of the Lonesome Lizards. Songs of the Devil lamenting his lack of evil skill in comparison to modern man. Or aliens crashed, marooned on the Roswell dessert and can't get off this rock soon enough. The alarming population decline of the "Hippy"(Chris Clark writes a few tunes as well). Songs about underrated greats like Stetson Kennedy. The journey runs wild and irony goes deep with LBSL. With four full length EP's and one full length live concert album strapped to their hip sack the boys are currently promoting their biggest, boldest album release, yet! December 2015 they dropped an album titled "Giving Up War"!! No surprise, the new album is chalked full of unique protest songs about war, fracking, fishing and a song about Bert's cowboy boots when he was a young boy. You just need to hear it. You should hear all of it!! The boys travel around and hit any stage that will have them and they always deliver their signature bumptime, boogie, storytelling "folk music with a machine gun" style tunes! You haven't heard anything quit like it!! "My days are long and my nights are lonely, and I welcome voices only I can hear. They sing my song, they tell my story with harmonies that linger sweet and clear."-LBH -Get Down, Get Lonely

Wayne & Jane Sims - The Storytelling Sims
    Folk Art: Storytelling
Well known in NE Florida, The Sims remember lazy Southern summer evenings when folks sat on front porches rocking and swapping tales ‘til every child found a lap or pallet, the Jess-amine wilted and the fireflies had gone to bed.  They met when Jane was the executive producer of the St. Augustine Storytelling Festival in 1990 and Wayne was the CEO of “Cross and Sword,” Florida’s State Play.  After a time they discovered that proverbial spark, married in 1993,  and officially became a duo.  Since 1994 they have performed in tandem throughout the southeast entertaining audiences at festivals, libraries, schools and retirement communities.  Their specialty these days, aside from the humor shows Wayne loves, are carefully researched programs based on ironies found in history.

Backintyme makes history come alive. We don period dress to perform stories and songs of the 19th century. Each performance piece consists of an anecdote drawn from historical research, interwoven with a related song of the time. The stories tell what folks did and thought back then -- their acts and ideas. They form the source of our knowledge of the past. The songs reveal what they felt -- their emotions. They weave the fabric of our understanding. Dressed in Civil War clothing, Backintyme has performed across the country from Florida to Tennessee,Texas, Utah and across the pond in Ireland. Schools, libraries, museums and Florida State Parks have enjoyed presentations. Backintyme has performed at the Florida Folk Festival at the Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park for the last 25 years. They are annual performers at the Ormond Beach Celtic Festival where they sing the songs and tell the stories of Scotland and Ireland.

Scholars Word   reggae/dub -Homegrown reggae from the heart! Scholars Word takes everything good about reggae and weave it together in a new way, staying true to the roots of the music without sounding cliché or imitative. Pair that with lead singer Bryce Creighton’s clear, soothing voice, which captivates on tracks like “Good Feelin” and Searchin,” and you’ve got yourself an band that sounds remarkable from start to finish.
