  • Lonesome Bert
    Lonesome Bert
Folk Art: Other; Folk Art: Storytelling; Music; Music: Composition; Music: Other; Music: Vocal
Since their St. Augustine debut in 2005, Lonesome Bert & the Skinny Lizards has become an Old City staple. Taking a queue from rebel folk legends such as Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger and Bob Dylan. The paralysis of history may be found in old book bin text but Lonesome Bert Hodge's lyrics takes on old matter and converts it to be the impetus that sparks your mind a new. Each song line is a pathway you take and there are many options to choose from as you bumpity, clankity down the path with Hodge's acoustic fingerpick style and his band of Skinny Lizards: Chris Clark-upright Bass, Steve "Mr. Stiv" Mitherz-Pandario/Cahon and "Captain" Mark Saunders-Fiddle. The meter is pretty fast for this folk music. So, hold on tight and listen up!! Subject matter is everything and details can be easy to miss in the world of the Lonesome Lizards. Songs of the Devil lamenting his lack of evil skill in comparison to modern man. Or aliens crashed, marooned on the Roswell dessert and can't get off this rock soon enough. The alarming population decline of the "Hippy"(Chris Clark writes a few tunes as well). Songs about underrated greats like Stetson Kennedy. The journey runs wild and irony goes deep with LBSL. With four full length EP's and one full length live concert album strapped to their hip sack the boys are currently promoting their biggest, boldest album release, yet! December 2015 they dropped an album titled "Giving Up War"!! No surprise, the new album is chalked full of unique protest songs about war, fracking, fishing and a song about Bert's cowboy boots when he was a young boy. You just need to hear it. You should hear all of it!! The boys travel around and hit any stage that will have them and they always deliver their signature bumptime, boogie, storytelling "folk music with a machine gun" style tunes! You haven't heard anything quit like it!! "My days are long and my nights are lonely, and I welcome voices only I can hear. They sing my song, they tell my story with harmonies that linger sweet and clear."-LBH -Get Down, Get Lonely

  • Sam Pacetti
    Sam Pacetti
Music; Music: Composition; Music: Instrumental; Music: Other; Music: Vocal
Sam Pacetti is one who brings it all together. A fingerstyle guitar wizard. A deft songwriter, capable of haunting depth and wry humor in the space of one song. An impassioned and ecstatic vocalist, as well as a mesmerizing live performer, seamlessly melding head-spinning guitar pyrotechnics and raw emotion into one breathtaking package. Pacetti represents a culmination of the best of the American and British traditions. His 1997 Waterbug debut, "Solitary Travel," garnered critical raves. "This guy is very good, indeed," deadpanned the highly respected (and highly critical) UK magazine Folk Roots. And Dirty Linen, the influential US roots publication, opined, "Although the woods are full of young guitar virtuosos, few have developed the style, technique, and artistic wisdom of Sam Pacetti. 'Solitary Travel' heralds the arrival of one of the most talented instrumentalists and composers to appear in acoustic music in a month of Sundays." Sam Pacetti grew up in North Florida, hardly known as a hotbed of either the folk tradition of musical innovation. At 13, he found the music of both Chet Atkins and Merle Travis profound influences on his early musical development. Then fate intervened shortly after in the person of Gamble Rogers, the legendary picker and raconteur from St Augustine who took the young Pacetti under his wing. It was a time of astonishing musical and emotional growth. Pacetti and Rogers met and played weekly for a year until Rogers died while trying to save a drowning tourist caught in an undertow at Flagler Beach Florida. Though brief in their time together, Rogers was able to instill in Pacetti the importance of the folk process, the passing of music and oral tradition from teacher to student. Pacetti still counts Rogers as his most influential mentor. Tradition and innovation neatly balance in Sam Pacetti's music, the whole infused by a relentless intelligence intent on musical and philosophical synthesis. Martin Simpson, Richard Thompson, Joni Mitchell, and Merle Travis are touchstones to Pacetti, and while there are strong elements of the American Primitive school of guitar throughout his work, there is a powerful emotionality as well - an earthy sensuality more reminiscent of a Greg Brown or a red-dirt blues master than of a musical academician. Word has spread about Sam Pacetti and as with anything truly innovative, it starts at the grassroots. You won't see Pacetti written up in People or Us. You won't hear his music on Top-40 radio. No, the word is spreading about Sam Pacetti the way true innovation always does - through non-commercial radio play. From tapes and CDs passed from friend to friend, at folk festivals and listening rooms. And, in the tradition stemming from the days of rent-raising parties in the Mississippi delta - and now carried on by music aficionados unable to find music that interests them within the mainstream.

Music; Music: Other; Drum circles, interactive rhythm programs, transformational rhythm experiences
I am a drum circle facilitator, and my job is to bring people together through the medium of drumming.  I am dedicated to utilizing the power of music and movement to help others discover their true healthy selves – and to have lots of fun and be a little playful along the way. In 2003, I picked up my first drum.  Primarily being a singer at the time, I thought it would add a little groove to my vocal abilities. Learning African music was a challenge like no other.  At school, I joined the Berklee African Drum and Dance Ensemble, and my fascination with rhythm escalated.  My rhythm journey led me on a cultural trip to Ghana, West Africa, and then on to earn an M.A. in Ethnomusicology from Tufts University, during which time I conducted field research in Senegal, West Africa and Boston. I found myself performing in various student and professional ensembles – and felt a flutter of excitement every time I took the stage.  In 2012, it led me to found Just Add Rhythm LLC, with the vision of providing engaging hands-on opportunities for group music making to the South Florida community, in order for all to reap the physical, mental, emotional, and social benefits of drumming.   Having fun is serious business, and for the past 13 years I’ve worked with children, teens, families, adults, and seniors, introducing them to the joy of music and the profoundly positive effect it can have on each and every one of us. I am a proud member of the Drum Circle Facilitators Guild, a Senior Accredited DRUMBEAT and a certified Remo Health RHYTHMS® facilitator, and a licensed 40-hour Childcare professional with the Florida Department of Children and Families. I currently work with organizations throughout Northeast and South Florida to provide fun and engaging drumming opportunities for all.

Lucio Rubino is St. Augustine, Florida’s coat of many colors, bearing the titles of award-winning songwriter, award-winning musician, music producer, and music engineer at Fish Tank Recordings. Lucio is certainly a center block in the foundation of the musical platform of St. Augustine. He can morph into several different styles, from pop, rock, blues, Americana, folk, and has even been known to cover a few electronic dance music songs. ”Songs from the Heart” It’s hard to throw Salt & Pine into a specific musical category. Hint’s of 90’s Alternative, Folk Revival, and Bluegrass all seep into their eclectic mix. The enthusiasm and kinship is contagious, and their songs stem from that bond. Formed in St. Augustine in 2017, Salt and Pine hit the ground running. Within a year of their formation they had released their debut album, played shows with the Grammy Award winning Steeldrivers, Chatham County Line, and the Ruen Brothers, and completed their first east coast tour.

My solo act is molded by the troubadours of the Seventies including Harry Chapin, Jim Croce, Jimmy Buffet, John Prine, and Gordon Lightfoot etc. My Solo Act has developed and matured over the course of 28 years. The fact that I have played some of these songs thousands of times, for nearly 30 years, means I love what I do. Some additional artists include John Denver, Dave Matthews, The Stones, The Dead, The Guess Who, Chicago, the Smithereens, Barenaked Ladies etc. I sell memories and beer. I can steer a show several ways depending on the venue and pulse of the audience. I play 95% of my gigs without a songbook/tablet or setlist and rather focus on the performance.
