  • Jamie DeFrates
    Jamie DeFrates
    Music
Jamie finds inspiration all around him. He lets the music move him as if he were its instrument. When he was growing up, he had a radio show along with his parents called The Golden Gospel Hour.  Jamie has always had a great passion for music, melody and rhyme. He got his first guitar when he was 10 years old and fell in love and it set the course for his whole life. On the streets of San Francisco around  Fisherman’s Wharf and Ghirardelli Square is where he first experienced his love for performing live. He followed his dream around the country until he landed in St. Augustine, Florida. Jamie has been writing songs all of his life but it wasn't until he started writing music for film, video documentaries  and theme park rides that he found his niche.  He loves collaborating with other artists and experimenting with different genres of music.
  • Elske deGroot
    Elske deGroot
    Visual Arts: Other
Elske's work directly responds to her surrounding environment and she tends to use everyday experiences as a starting point. Often these are framed instances that would go unnoticed in their original context, snippets of time and place. With a subtle minimalist approach, Elske creates work in which a fascination with the clarity of content and an uncompromising attitude towards conceptual art can be found. Her journey as an artist started as a commercial photographer. When she was given the opportunity to teach very early photographic printing techniques at a college in Toronto, she came to realize that she loved the hands-on, tactical, physical experience of creating art. This led Elske to explore how else she could incorporate her photography into tactical art pieces. Elske's first few experiments were a flop. She tried using things like wallpaper paste, shoe glue, and multiple different types of paper. The experimentation process was a great joy though. It gave her inner child a chance to come out explore without judgment. Elske finally settled on encaustics and photography and she has never looked back. She continues to explore new techniques within encaustics and finds contentment in the failures and successes.

I am a local eclectic mosaic artist! I often use mixed media in my pieces but always include my love...stained glass. Much of my work also has Orsoni Smalti imported from Italy or Moroccan clay tiles imported from...you guessed it...Morocco!  In additon to developing my art I am also a tour guide with Tour St. Augustine and have several pieces displayed in the lobby at  4 Granada St. Since photos never seem to do justice to the beauty of the glass ...stop in and say hello!
  • Joseph Desiderio
    Joseph Desiderio
    Visual Arts: Photography
Joe Desiderio is a photographer born and raised in Philadelphia. He has mostly lived in the Southeast in Virginia, North & South Carolina, and now St. Augustine, Florida. The city's abundant history, beauty, and people provide him with endless opportunities to capture moments he loves to share. Joseph says, "I'm obsessed with getting each and every shot just right. I agonize over presenting it perfectly so you can feel what I felt when that particular image was captured. This city, and the surrounding sea and landscapes, inspire me like never before." Joseph studied Psychology and Business at St. Joseph’s University where he added photography studies that provided the basics of photography when film was used before digital photography. He enjoyed spending many hours in the darkroom developing his film and photos manually. He uses the foundational techniques to capture the perfect cloud formation over a tranquil body of water or storm clouds over raging surf. "Give me a sunrise or a sunset and the romantic in me surges to the surface, grabs my camera, and compels me to attempt to preserve that moment to remember forever! If I’ve done it right, then you’ll see and feel what I did at that very moment and it’s then yours forever too."

Visual Arts; Artist - Fiber Artist
Dyed-in-the-Wool I am a dyed-in-the-wool fiber artist!  Being a kinesthetic and empirical type of learner;  I am compelled to create and work with my hands!   Fibers and textiles being tactile and malleable in nature present me with so many creative possibilities! Hand-dyed silk and wool fibers and fabrics are the basis of my artworks. This choice comes from both tactile and aesthetic considerations. Through felting, I build my concepts into form and dimension, while creating rich textures and patterns of saturated colors. The work of making felt is demanding physically and considerable but at the same time magical and sensuous. Silk has luminosity - it can be sheer and translucent, letting the light through. I use the reflective qualities of silk fabrics and fibers and position them so they shimmer and create highlights. I also use shibori techniques (the Japanese art of resist dyeing and texturing) folding, pleating, binding and dyeing fabrics to achieve colors, patterns, and textures in my artwork. A key concept in my work is Wabi Sabi, the Japanese expression of the imperfection in nature that makes it beautiful.  It also conveys the impermanence of nature and the simple truths that change is the only constant, everything is in flux, and nothing is perfect. I aspire to create lively and interactive artwork in which the interplay of light and shadows, colors and shades, movement and atmosphere, layers and textures enter into a dialog with the viewer, and change depending on where the viewer stands (and on how the pieces are mounted). I strive to let light and air through in my artworks, while movement and reflective qualities intrigue. Being a consummate experimenter, my fiber art work has branched off in several directions as I learn and play with new approaches.  My passion is for combining fiber art forms to create something new.  My professional design background helps lead me in a cohesive direction but does not dictate my creativity. As I experiment, change directions, work intuitively, my work is all evolving, always changing — and like me, a work in progress.  And always open to new possibilities...
  • Richard Dudley
    Richard Dudley
    Music: Instrumental
“MOYAMOYA is an instrumental post-rock band from Jacksonville, FL. The trio formed in 2009 and over the next several years crafted their dynamic sound. The band only settles in any groove long enough to get your head bobbing before jerking you, without warning, to a new time signature or tempo change. By constantly bending and blending genres, they create a unique form of audio alchemy. Fluctuating between tightly executed math rock, walls of distorted sludge and extended textural ambiance, MOYAMOYA will keep you guessing throughout your listening. Their freshman self-titled album is available thru Fort Lowell Records."
