Joe’s work examines man’s relationship with nature. Where typically raw materials are processed to eliminate their variations into a useable state, this manipulation for the sake of utility reflects an insensitivity to the natural world. Joe honors the essence of the materials which is not only visible but central to the final appearance of his work.

His sculptures are also observations of time passing. Time is linear and cyclical. The past is somewhere behind us while the future is farther ahead. And the sun rises and sets every day. The seasons change every year. These ideas are illustrated within organic sculptures that are divided by rectilinear elements.

Joe Segal creates meditative compositions to contemplate our connection to nature and the most perplexing of human concerns: the passage of time.
