Laura Mongiovi is an Associate Professor of Art and Design at Flagler College in St. Augustine, Florida. She has an MFA from University of Colorado, Boulder and a BFA from Florida State University.
Mongiovi’s work is a response to cultural artifacts, rituals and beliefs. She investigates the processes, materials and concepts used to create objects, textiles and architecture. Within these diverse approaches to cultivating traditional practices exists a mutual human need to satisfy personal desire. Rare objects, garments laden with color and texture, palaces with lavish gardens and tantalizing sensations of the palate have influenced paradigms of commerce, culture and science. Historical details reveal the common need we have to please the senses. Mongiovi’s work pays homage to origins while alluding to personal experience.
Mongiovi exhibits her work nationally including solo exhibitions, juried and group shows. She teaches across the curriculum at Flagler College and presents her teaching pedagogy at national conferences. Mongiovi guest lectures about her work and leads workshops.
