The long-range goal of the St. Augustine Literary Society is to develop a multi-year cultural development plan for Greater St. Augustine that would help it become a City of Literature as recognized by UNESCO (the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization). This would add St. Augustine to a worldwide list of UNESCO Creative Cities: Seattle and Iowa City are already on the UNESCO list.
UNESCO Creative Cities put creativity and cultural industries at the heart of their development plans. UNESCO only accepts new applications every four years, and the next deadline is June of 2023. So, we have about three years to create a plan and submit an application.
