Dr. Ann Browning Masters will present “Writing Floridanos, Menorcans, Cattle Whip Crackers: Growing Up in St. Augustine”. In a short talk before the reading, Masters will share some of the “old St. Augustine ways” that lit back-burner stories for her writing. Bold, humorous, sometimes heart-tugging, these oral traditions describe deep España’s convergence and melding with the Deep South. The community is invited to this insider’s view of anthropology and religion on the street. Master’s oral presentation will include rum-running and “shine”, the Menorcan pedigree, the incognito Menorcan, as well as life before and after 1964. She will be available for book signing after the talk.
