Art Studio member, Jan Beasley, will be our featured artist for February. While Seascapes and palm fronds are her absolute favorites to paint currently, Jan first started painting when she was only 6 years old. She and her sister Joyce had received a small watercolor paint set for Christmas from their church. They would paint and draw together and learned from the same teachers. Art Studio member, Jan Beasley, will be our featured artist for February. While Seascapes and palm fronds are her absolute favorites to paint currently, Jan first started painting when she was only 6 years old. She and her sister Joyce had received a small watercolor paint set for Christmas from their church. They would paint and draw together and learned from the same teachers. The teachers that influenced Jan the most were from elementary school. Mrs. Edna Stegall and especially Mrs. Nan Williams both encouraged Jan to paint and draw. Jan also learned from watching artists such as Bill Alexander, Bob Ross, and Priscilla Hauser on television. While always looking to improve her painting skills, she has taken 3 and 4 day workshops from artists: Peggy Harris, Donna S. Dewberry, Jamie Mills-Price, Wilson R. Bickford, Byron Pickering, instructors at The Art Studio, and many others. Jan has painted with acrylics and watercolors in several different styles to include: Decorative Painting, Folk Art, Murals, Tole Painting, and has painted Christmas ornaments for family and friends. She has also donated paintings to charities such as the American Cancer Society. After suffering a terrible accident in 1999, Jan had to stop painting due to damage done to both of her hands. She also had two strokes, and it took her 13 years to start painting again. She started back by painting Landscapes and Seascapes with oil paint and absolutely adored it! She fell in love with the softness of the colors she could achieve with oils. Seascapes are her passion now, and they help her escape from pain and stress. She especially loves painting palm fronds! Her work can be found in The Art Studio, craft shows, and various places in St. Augustine.

The Art Studio is available to rent for classes or as meeting space. Membership is offered at just $20.00/year although it is not necessary to become a member to participate in any of the variety of classes offered.
