This lovely church in the St Augustine countryside is still a Hellenic community but is also now made up of Orthodox Christians from many backgrounds. In addition to the spiritual and communal benefits of membership at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox church in St Augustine, we also offer a variety of activities for children, providing an opportunity to actively engage in a faith-based community and improve their chances of a happier, healthier life.
The presence of a Greek Orthodox church in St Augustine, Florida, is a wonderful and unique blend of history and the rich tradition of the earliest and original Christian church.
The history of Orthodox Christianity goes back to the Apostles of Jesus Christ. The history of Greek immigrants in America dates back to 1768. Though the first colony of Greeks, Minorcans, and Italians ultimately failed, those that survived moved from New Smyrna north to St Augustine. Those Greek residents practiced their faith in various places, including the building that now houses the St. Photios Shrine in the old city area of St Augustine.
As more Greeks moved to north Florida in the 1800s, there was no formal Greek Orthodox church in St Augustine. However, as the number of Greek Orthodox families grew, they organized and incorporated a Hellenic Society which eventually raised enough money to purchase a small church in downtown St Augustine 1976. Relics of America's Gilded Age are elegantly exhibited on the museum's three floors. Costumes, furnishings, mechanical musical instruments and other artifacts give you a glimpse into 19th century daily life. The Lightner collection includes beautiful examples of cut glass, Victorian art glass and the stained glass work of Louis Comfort Tiffany.
The Historic Florida Militia (HFM) is a non-profit umbrella organization supporting re-created historic interpretive units and representing a number of cultures and time periods. "We are not street performers, we are educators. We are not parades, we are historic programs. This is not an exercise in free speech, this is an opportunity to educate. CCPVB is a non-profit 501(c) (3) arts organization located in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida dedicated to providing a place for everyone in the Jacksonville region to create, understand and experience the arts. Built in honor of Dr. JoAnn Crisp-Ellert and her husband, Dr. Robert Ellert, the Crisp-Ellert Art Museum offers Flagler College students and the Northeast Florida community a venue for fostering knowledge and a deep appreciation of contemporary art. As an educational resource for the College, the Museum exhibits regional, national and international artists, and provides opportunities for critical engagement and exposure to a variety of exhibitions and personal interactions with visiting artists.
