The mission of St. Augustine Public Montessori School is to provide students with a learning culture grounded in Montessori philosophy and practice that inspires a love of learning and respect for self, others, and the environment.

The St. Augustine Public Montessori School is part of the St. Johns County District. The school is governed independently by a non-profit organization Board of Trustees but is accountable to the SJCSD and State Department of Education. We are building upon the great success of the many public elementary Montessori schools across the nation and Florida. SAPMS has enhanced the District’s excellent success rates and attraction for residents by including a Montessori option as a public school choice.

We emphasize the following key Montessori principles:

  • Prepared environment of Montessori materials and curriculum
  • Mixed-age classrooms in 3-year spans
  • Student choice of activity and uninterrupted blocks of work time
  • Integrated instruction where all curriculum subjects are connected
  • Individuals work at their own pace, regardless of ability level or age
  • A focus on cooperation rather than competition
  • Active involvement of children, parents, local citizens, and organizations
  • Montessori-trained teachers

SAPMS is open to children ages 3 – 12.

By providing a public Montessori option, SAPMS will help meet the demand for Montessori education in St. Johns County and enhance the educational opportunities within the St. Johns County School District.

Crisp-Ellert Art Museum at Flagler College

crisp-ellertBuilt in honor of Dr. JoAnn Crisp-Ellert and her husband, Dr. Robert Ellert, the Crisp-Ellert Art Museum offers Flagler College students and the Northeast Florida community a venue for fostering knowledge and a deep appreciation of contemporary art. As an educational resource for the College, the Museum exhibits regional, national and international artists, and provides opportunities for critical engagement and exposure to a variety of exhibitions and personal interactions with visiting artists. The Museum challenges students, the Flagler community and the public to cultivate individual creativity, critical reflection, historical consciousness and respect for the free exchange of ideas. In this spirit, the Museum also hosts public programs, including artist talks, readings, panel discussions and film series that provide a platform for vital interdisciplinary dialogue.
