Ruth Van Alstine was born in Oneonta, New York. She was encouraged by one of her schoolteachers to write poetry, and she fell in love with the craft and has never laid down her pen. Fifty odd years later, she has been published around the world. Some of the publications include AC PAPA #3, Cadence, (a) River Rising, Roots and Branches, and (a) River Rising, Rivers and Oceans. She has hosted poetry open mics from Miami South Beach in the 90’s to Palo Alto, California and has always been active in her literary and poetry communities. She is active in the North Florida Poetry Hub where they host regular online poetry workshops, open mics, and live poetry cultural events throughout the Northeast Florida area. She is the editor for Rising Moon Press in Jacksonville, Florida.

She is a member of the Ancient City Poets of St. Augustine, the National Federation of State Poetry Societies, Membership Chair for the Florida State Poets Association and is President of North Florida Poetry Hub, a local Chapter of the Florida State Poets Association in Jacksonville, Florida.

A creative artist of handcrafts in 2020 she developed a passion for mixed media art and abstract acrylic painting. In 2021 she discovered the method of acrylic fluid art, which has led to yet another passionate outlet for her creative expression. Her work has been shown at the St Augustine Beach Art Gallery, the 2022 Oceans, and the 2023 Justice Exhibits with Women Writing For (a) Change in Jacksonville, Florida.
