The professional artist and doctor in Psychology, Dr. Betty Carvajal is a master in connecting people with their hearts and each other. Having the expertise in both of her practices, she believes that art is healing for both the artist and the observer. Her works reflect the duality of innocence and sometimes our reality. With influences as diverse as Van Gogh, Banksy, and Frankenthaler, new combinations are crafted from the present with both constructed and discovered meanings.

Her desire is to strengthen and empower people and leave the viewer with joy and hope. In the presence of her work, momentary forms become clarified through studious practice or simply being present; the intent is for the observer to be left with a deep connection to themselves and others.

Her abstract paintings show dynamics of apparent disorganization and complex patterns, yet, within is embedded order, harmony, and balanced composition. Demonstrating the principle that “no matter how flawed you think you are, there is a divine order within that is already perfect.”

Flying Kites are common in some of her work. She believes Kites allow us to feel freedom, youth, health, and vitality and mostly hope. “We can supersede anything if we hold on to our hope”.

“I love kites’. What starts as inspiration soon becomes an infinite labyrinth and journey, through a euphony of colors, textures, and sometimes abrasive reality, leaving only a sense of chaos and delight with only one option: the possibility of a new beginning.”

Carvajal has been creating art since she was 8 years old. It came very naturally to her. Although art was not part of her family heritage, it was different for her. She felt as though she had been creating art for many lifetimes, since it felt so inherently comfortable. “I realize you don’t choose art; art chooses you.”

What started as a degree in architecture transitioning to psychology has come full circle while currently working on new art that embodies her abstract style with traditional structure.

Her energy work training has helped her become aware of the potential and power words and thoughts have on our lives. Despite not always being visible, words of positivity and affirmations are embedded throughout her artwork. “I have always loved bright, palpable color and messages in my work. Subconsciously or aware, I want to help people remember that they have unlimited potential, beauty, and courage.”

This is her vision and why she has developed her unique style. Her conviction is to create an enlightened sharing of emotions at the deepest levels. Her passion can be felt vibrating through her work.
