World-renowned artist Harry McCormick will display his artwork all summer long at the St. Johns County Administrative Building's rotunda. Sponsored by the St. Johns County Cultural Council, the showing is scheduled for July 3-Sept. 20. McCormick, who recently moved to the Jacksonville, Fla., area, will be on site for much of the showing, including a July 17 grand opening, scheduled for 8:15-9 a.m., in the rotunda prior to the regularly scheduled St. Johns County Commission meeting.
McCormick is a New Jersey native noted for his realistic paintings with a focus on light and shadow and he has been called a painter of “interiors” and “genre”' – such as ordinary people doing ordinary things like a series of people looking at paintings in museums and galleries. Painting bars has been an ongoing theme for many years, including the Victorian Pubs of London, New York bars from the Plaza Hotel Oak Bar to McSorley’s Old Ale House (Harry’s favorite locale) and South Beach in Miami, San Francisco, Chicago and Paris. Interiors have included the mansions of Newport to the Breakers and the Flagler Mansion in Palm Beach.
Harry McCormick's painting, Stocca Baccala, was awarded first place in the prestigious St. Augustine Art Association Spring Show. Baccala will also be featured at the Harry McCormick exhibition along with 40 other McCormick masterpiece works.
