Fifth Annual Commemoration of Largest Mass Arrest of Rabbis in US History

Presented by St. Augustine Jewish Historical Society at Unknown

The fifth annual commemoration of the largest mass arrest of Rabbis in US History will take place in the Flagler Room of the Ponce de Leon Hotel on the campus of Flagler College. The ceremony will include a reading of the letter written by the Rabbis from the St. Johns County Jail explaining why they viewed their protest of racial segregation as a rare opportunity to “achieve a just end with just means.” The 90 minute program begins at 7 p.m. There will be a brief review of the steps leading to and the context of the actions of the spring and early summer of 1964. The event will conclude with a discussion “Where Do We Go From Here?” focusing on the next steps in the fight for racial equality and the roles we can all play in creating a more just world. This event is free, all are welcome, no advance arrangements are necessary. Call (904) 819-6365 for best directions. For further information call 804-914-4460
