Classic Holiday Movie Matinee

Presented by Southeast Branch Library at Southeast Branch Public Library

Festive and classic holiday films are featured every Monday afternoon in December at 2pm.

12/7: A Christmas Carol
We’re kicking off our Classic Holiday Movie Matinee series with the 1938 version of A Christmas Carol, based on the novel by Charles Dickens. Crotchety miser Ebenezer Scrooge hates Christmas and mistreats his long-suffering employee, devoted family man Bob Cratchit. But a visit from the ghost of his former business partner Jacob Marley and three Christmas spirits might convince him to change his ways and become more kindhearted.

12/14: It’s a Wonderful Life
James Stewart and Donna Reed star in this holiday favorite. After George Bailey wishes he had never been born, an angel is sent to earth to make George’s wish come true. George starts to realize how many lives he has changed and impacted, and how they would be different if he was never there.

12/21: White Christmas
There’ll be no snow here, but we can all imagine we’re having a white Christmas! Having left the Army following W.W.II, Bob Wallace and Phil Davis team up to become a top song-and-dance act. Davis plays matchmaker and introduces Wallace to a pair of beautiful sisters who also have a song-and-dance act. When Betty and Judy travel to a Vermont lodge to perform a Christmas show, Wallace and Davis follow, only to find their former commander, General Waverly, as the lodge owner. A series of romantic mix-ups ensue as the performers try to help the General.

12/28: Holiday Inn
We’re welcoming in the new year with the funny Irving Berlin musical starring Bing Crosby as a song-and-dance man who retires from show business to run a country inn.
