New Year: New Art

New Year: New Art

Presented by Butterfield Garage Art Gallery at Butterfield Garage Art Gallery

Butterfield Garage Art Gallery joyfully rings in the New Year with NINE new artists. Paintings, etchings, wood-turned sculptural works and distinctive ceramic pottery will be on view during January, with featured artists Gerald Brummer, Jessie Crawford Cook, Debra Mixon Holliday, Joyce Hutchinson, Ken Jensen, Lois Newman, Karen F. Rose, Rebecca Shaffer and Bob Stoker. The gallery will host an opening reception in their honor from 5 until 9 p.m. on New Year’s Day during the First Friday Art walk. Jessie Crawford Cook is an oil painter whose Florida landscapes and dramatic still lifes have the light and clarity of impressionism. Another contemporary impressionist, Rebecca Shaffer loves the emotional impact of color and her lyrical paintings often include a body of water in the composition. The spiritual and contemplative landscapes of Karen F. Rose invoke a gentle memory of place. Watercolorist Lois Newman creates vibrant and colorful scenes, mixing color directly on the paper and adding granulating pigment for texture and visual interest. Gerald Brummer paints small, sensitive watercolors and is also an accomplished Flamenco guitarist. Debra Mixon Holliday is a print maker and mixed media artist whose copper plate etchings are explorations of nature and our perceptions of nature, place, and time. Joyce Hutchinson develops exquisite designs by gradually adding layers of color and intensity using oil-based color pencils. A master craftsman in wood, Bob Stoker turns unique bowls and vessels from his favorite local wood; camphor, sycamore, magnolia, and cherry. Ken Jensen is widely known for his raku and stoneware pottery. Strongly influenced by Japanese pottery and tropical fantasy, he applies land and seascapes with airbrush stencils and paintbrushes to create imagery in glazes and underglazes. The exhibition will continue through February 2 at Butterfield Garage Art Gallery, 137 King Street, St. Augustine. The gallery is open daily from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. For further information, please call 904- 825-4577, visit the website at www.butterfieldgarage.com, or contact Jan Miller at janmille@bellsouth.net
