George Orwell's 1984

George Orwell's 1984

Presented by A Classic Theatre and Lincolnville Museum and Cultural Center at Lincolnville Museum and Cultural Center

ACT’s first production of the 2018-2019 season is the iconic 1984 adapted by Robert Owens, Wilton E. Hall, Jr., and William A. Miles, Jr. Based on the iconic novel by George Orwell, 1984 is a provocative adaptation of one of the most prescient works of literature of the last century.

For those who have read Orwell’s novel, the society portrayed was absolutely unbelievable. However, today we have to wonder if it might not be possible after all…. Orwell himself wrote, "I do not believe that the kind of society I describe necessarily will arrive, but I believe that something resembling it could arrive. The moral to be drawn from the dangerous nightmare situation is a simple one: Don't let it happen. It depends on you." Has 1984 become a cautionary tale??? Judge for yourself!

A Q&A session will be held after the first Sunday matinee on October 28th. This will be an exciting opportunity to voice your thoughts on the message of the play and how it connects/compares with the tone of our society today.
