Skill Level: Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced

Utilizing a fresh and functional sculptural language Peter Rubino will bring participants on a technical and artistic journey toward understanding the dynamic and creative forces in figurative sculpture. This workshop will focus on developing and finishing a 24 to 30 inch female torso using water-based clay. Day one, participants will learn how to build a clay foundation utilizing an easy to follow, step-by-step method of arranging simple clay block shapes on a single armature pipe, according to the position, proportion, and planes of the model. Once the foundation and movement of the pose are set in clay, students will begin shaping the anatomy and forming their clay torso. Tooling techniques, detail, and surface treatment will be covered on days two and three, bringing the torso to a dramatic completion.

Daily demonstrations, group lessons and personalized attention combined with technical training will give each student a comprehensive and inspiring learning experience. Additionally, Peter will discuss how to hollow, fire, patina, and mount finished sculptures. He encourages participants to work at their own pace and develop an individual artistic style.
