The First recorded St. Patrick Day Parade in the WORLD !
NOT Boston, NOT New York, NOT even Ireland…
A recent discovery proves that the world’s first recorded St Patrick’s Day celebration was in St. Augustine, Florida, in the year 1600, and the first St. Patrick Day Parade was also here in 1601.
More than half the residents of St. Augustine can claim an ancestor from Scotland, Ireland, Wales or one of the other Seven Celtic Nations. The St. Patrick Day Parade is an annual celebration of St. Augustine's Celtic heritage and the Emerald Isle's most revered saint.
Thousands of spectators, lads and lasses converge upon the Ancient City each year, donning their tartans and green attire. With over 1,000 participants and more than 50 units including Clans, and athletes from the Highland Games, the parade travels down Orange Street to Avenida Menendez (the bayfront), then to Cathedral Place, next on Cordova Street, then back to Orange Street.
Then follow the parade to the Celtic Festival.
