Showcasing jazz through the ages from its African roots to the fusion sounds of today in historic St. Augustine
On March 15, 2019, Ron McCurdy will perform The Langston Hughes Project, a multimedia concert performance of Langston Hughes’ kaleidoscopic jazz poem suite titled “Ask Your Mama: Twelve Moods for Jazz” at 7 p.m. at Lewis Auditorium at Flagler College. Hughes created the jazz poem, a creative masterwork left unperformed at his death, as homage in verse and music to the struggle for artistic and social freedom at home and abroad at the beginning of the 1960s. McCurdy, professor of music in the Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California and past president of the International Association for Jazz Education, will share this performance with the audience.
The St. Augustine Distillery is the presenting sponsor of Lincolnville Jazz at the Excelsior, a series of performances hosted by the Lincolnville Museum and Cultural Center from December through April. The concerts showcase jazz through the ages from its African roots to the fusion sounds of today in historic St. Augustine.
Tickets are $30 in advance, $35 at the door at $15 for students with identification.
