“The Civil Rights Movement in St. Augustine,” by David Nolan

“The Civil Rights Movement in St. Augustine,” by David Nolan

Presented by St. Augustine Historical Society at Unknown

David Nolan is the author of Fifty Feet in Paradise, a history of the development (and over development) of Florida, and of The Houses of St. Augustine, which grew out of his work in the 1970s on the first official survey of historic buildings in the Ancient City.

He is a long time member of ACCORD, the organization which has given St. Augustine a permanently marked "Freedom Trail" of historic sites of the civil rights movement. In 2014, ACCORD opened the first civil rights museum in the state of Florida, in the former dental office of Dr. Robert Hayling, on Bridge Street.

He will share with us some of the things he has learned about St. Augustine's greatest encounter with modern history.
