Fine Art Batik Workshop

Fine Art Batik Workshop

Presented by Cindy Wilson | Batiks at Unknown

Students will explore various tools and methods for building multiple layers of color with hot wax and dyes on cotton. By class completion each participant will have completed several batiks. The class is limited to 8 students so there is plenty of individual attention.

All supplies are provided, just show up ready to create! working with melted wax is fun and relaxing. Drawing skills are a plus but not necessary. Tracing an image is a quicker approach for this class.

By the end of the week participants will have completed 3+ batiks from photographic images they have chosen and brought to class.

Additional time info:

By the end of the week participants will have completed 3+ batiks from photographic images they have chosen and brought to class.

On the first day students will learn how to translate an image I will provide into a batikable drawing on the cloth. Together the class will be walked thru the techniques and steps of applying multiple waxing and dying to complete their first batik. During the time fabric is soaking in dye or drying on the line, students will begin to draw/trace their own images onto cloth. I will provide individual guidance to help student learn how to plan out the sequence of steps of the batik at the beginning of the process.

Over the course of the week students can explore multiple techniques of

-how to layer dyes from light to dark

-how to over dye in order to create new unique colors

-Mixing and applying dyes by soaking or sponging.

-practice applying hot wax with a tjanting, brushes or splatter.

-how to create and control crackling

- learn multiple methods for removing wax from finished batiks
