1¢ LIFE Exhibition Opening Reception Party

1¢ LIFE Exhibition Opening Reception Party

at The Cultural Center at Ponte Vedra Beach

Join the Cultural Center in celebrating its 25th anniversary with the opening reception for the Center's first-ever national exhibition, 1¢ LIFE. This 1960s themed Pop Art “Happening” will take place on Friday, October 4, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. There will be a pre-party event for Cultural Center members beginning at 5:30 p.m. It’s going to be “outta sight."

Get ready to be wowed by this wildly vibrant poetry and Pop Art exhibition including works by Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein. The exhibition, 1¢ LIFE, will be presented at The Cultural Center at Ponte Vedra Beach from September 27, 2019 to November 9, 2019. This exhibition will celebrate the 55th anniversary of the landmark publication, 1¢ LIFE, with over 55 important original graphics and poems from the publication, which debuted in 1964. The exhibition will also accompany the Cultural Center’s 25th Anniversary Celebration.

This retro opening reception will include 1960s themed cocktails and bites. (Fondue and martinis please, shaken, not stirred).  A 1960s jazz band trio, “Cats in Bird Land”, will set the vibe to music. Guests are encouraged to travel back in time and don their favorite 1960s attire. Did someone say go-go boots?

Tickets for the 1¢ LIFE Exhibition Opening Reception and CCPVB 25th Anniversary Celebration cost $90 for members and $125 for the general public, and can be purchased at ccpvb.org, by calling 904.280.0614, or by stopping by the Cultural Center.  Proceeds benefit future national and international exhibitions at the Cultural Center.

This exhibition will be the first national exhibition the Cultural Center has hosted. It comes at an exciting time of growth and change as the Cultural Center prepares to transition to a new, state-of-the-art facility.

Exhibition tickets will be available for purchase online, in advance, over the phone, and at the door. Click ccpvb.org for details.

Enhancing the exhibition will be specialty Pop Art and poetry-related programs, lectures, poetry readings,  and workshops. Pop Art and poetry-related merchandise will be available for purchase. The exhibition is organized by Landau Traveling Exhibitions in association with Denenberg Fine Arts. For more information about the exhibit and related programming, visit ccpvb.org or call 904.280.0614.

This exhibition is sponsored in part by Tom Gartland, Glenn Guzzo, Arthur Hayden, Walter Jewett, Wayne Novak, Jim Pope, and Steve Wyman, The Florida Times Union, St. Augustine Media, the Ponte Vedra Recorder, the St. Johns County Tourist Development Council, and Arbus Magazine.

Two artists’ works will be on view in the Cultural Center’s front gallery spaces during the opening reception celebration.  Artist Laura Colomb’s moody charcoal and pastel drawings of Florida swamps coincide with Jessica Burke’s drawings portraying whimsically-costumed human skeletons. Both exhibitions should not be missed.
