In 2018, the Hispanic Culture Film Festival (HCFF) successfully inaugurated the first film festival ever held in the United States to celebrate Hispanic Culture. Bringing together film directors, producers, leading actors and celebrities to Jacksonville, Florida, the HCFF also commemorated the fact that “JAX” was America’s first Hollywood—in the early years of the 20th century, Jacksonville attracted more than 30 movie studios. Jacksonville’s first silent film studio opened in 1908, followed by many more over the course of the next decade, including Metro Pictures – later to become Hollywood giant, MGM.
