Film Inspires Art
Diane Maurno has been a TV/Film Makeup Designer for 35 years. She is always fascinated with images. She takes innumerable pictures on each set. A couple of years ago she became particularly focused on a group of images from the film ‘HoneyDripper’. The film is a project of legendary independent film maker John Sayles and his partner Maggie Renzi. It’s a period piece set in 1950 in the rural South. Essentially it documents the transition from folk blues to the beginning of rock & roll set against the backdrop of back breaking labor in the cotton fields when Jim Crow had become de facto slavery.
The images of people in that setting inspired Maurno to create her own interpretation of various scenes from the film. Come see her created images of hope, anger, despair and love taken from ‘HoneyDripper’ and the film that inspired her.
