Presented by Friends of the Main Library St. Augustine at Unknown

Friends of the Main Library St. Augustine is thrilled to welcome back local historian Scott Grant. Patrons of the Wednesday Brown Bag Lunch Program may remember him from his presentation last year on the sinking of the SS Gulfamerica near the shore of Jacksonville during WWII. Learn about Martin Luther King Jr.'s arrest and days spent in the St. Johns County jail, the infamous pool event at the Monson Motor Lodge that was made famous all over the world with a single photograph, and the arrest of 17 rabbis who were praying as a form of protest. These key events in June of 1964 led to the signing of the Civil Rights Act on July 2nd, 1964.
