The St. Augustine Film Society will kick off the St. Augustine Film Festival with a special presentation of an environmental documentary “Plastic Paradise” on Wednesday January 15th at 7 PM at First United Methodist Church (the Pumpkin Church)
Midway Atoll is in one of the most remote places on earth. And yet its become ground zero for The Great Pacific Garbage Patch, syphoning plastics from three distant continents. In this film, journalist/filmmaker Angela Sun travels on a personal journey of discovery to uncover this mysterious phenomenon. Along the way she meets scientists, researchers, influencers, and volunteers who shed light on the effects of our plastic consumption and learns the problem is more insidious than we could have ever imagined.
There will also be various local environmental organizations present to show you how you can best help solve this very large problem.
The event is free but donations are strongly encouraged and gratefully accepted.
