Henry Flagler’s Hotel Ponce de Leon: The Myth and the Marvel of the Hotel Ponce de Leon
Join the Lightner Museum and Florida Humanities for a Gilded Age evening celebrating “The Modern Wonder of the Ancient World” – the Hotel Ponce de Leon. Flagler College professor and author, Dr. Leslee Keys will present an engaging lecture that defines Henry Flagler’s impact on Florida’s Ancient City. The Spanish Renaissance Revival resort hotel conceived by industrialist and entrepreneur Henry Flagler forever changed St. Augustine’s skyline and his vision transformed a post-reconstruction small southern town into a destination. Flagler is credited as the “Father of Modern Florida” for his efforts along the Atlantic coast of the sunshine state that launched Florida into the 20th century. Following her engaging presentation, Dr. Keys will be available to answer questions and to sign copies of her book “Hotel Ponce De Leon – The Rise, Fall, and Rebirth of Flagler’s Gilded Age Palace.”
In correlation with Lightner Museum’s February focus on Henry Flagler’s impact in Florida, community partner Corazon Cinema and Café will feature and offer discounted tickets to two films on the era of industrialization and railroads. The General will play on February 7th & 8th. There Will Be Blood starring Daniel Day Lewis will play on February 21st & February 23rd. Movie attendees will receive a 20% discount coupon for purchases in Lightner Museum’s gift store. Visit Corazon Cinema and Cafe for showtimes.
