If you ask Caroline Conkin why she paints, she will tell you it's because she is compelled.  For as long as she can remember, Caroline was drawing, and she drew on whatever medium was available--newly painted walls, pieces of furniture, windows, mirrors.  Her mother made it a priority to make sure she had proper materials for her passion if she didn't want unsolicited art on any and all available surfaces.  Conkin's mother, also a painter, began teaching her daughter painting when Caroline was 12 years old.

Now retired from teaching, Caroline dedicates all of her free time to the creation of vibrant interpretations of the world around her.  Residing currently in St. Augustine, her latest work includes seascapes and landscapes from the St. Augustine area where she has lived for over 20 years.  She also paints street scenes capturing the old town's historic charm.  She states that she endeavors to manipulate color in her paintings to give them a slightly magical quality--her vision of the world in which she lives.

Ms. Conkin has taught art and produced art all of her life.  She studied art through high school, exhibiting and competing in local venues and contests.  She continued studying art in college, earning a B. A. in Art and English at the University of Oklahoma and is a member of the St. Augustine Art Association.
