Flagler College Department of Visual and Performing Arts to stage “The Women”

Presented by Flagler College at Unknown

The Flagler College Department of Visual and Performing Arts presents Clare Boothe Luce’s “The Women”. Set in the 1930s, the play tells the story of Mary Haines, a New York City socialite, who discovers her husband is having an affair. Mary must decide whether to feign ignorance and save her marriage or divorce her husband and allow her rival to replace her.

True to its name, “The Women” is an entirely female cast. Although the script calls for 35 speaking parts, Flagler's Theatre Arts department was able to cast 20 students, with some playing as many as four different parts. The play can be a challenge to produce, due to its large cast and many locations, but Program Director for Theatre Arts, Paul Denayer, designed a set to accommodate the scope of the play.
