CANCELED - America's Singing Sweethearts: A Tribute to Jeanette MacDonald & Nelson Eddy

Presented by First Coast Opera at Flagler College - Lewis Auditorium

First Coast Opera, northeast Florida’s professional opera company, continues its ongoing series of artist tributes with America’s Singing Sweethearts, celebrating the careers of soprano Jeanette MacDonald and baritone Nelson Eddy.

The pair starred in tuneful movies from the 1930s including Naughty Marietta, Rose Marie, and The New Moon, which featured popular music by Victor Herbert, Rudolf Friml, and Sigmund Romberg. MacDonald and Eddy also enjoyed successful careers in opera and musical theater, as well as radio and early television.

Hosted by Artistic Director Curtis Tucker, the concert will feature singing artists from throughout central and northeast Florida, including sopranos Hope Cruse, Adina Diehl, Brittany Fouché, Lisa Lockhart, and Ali Molnar, with baritones John Daugherty, David Diehl, Dirk Gavin McCoy, and Sean Stork, all accompanied by Brandon Smith on the concert grand piano in Lewis Auditorium at Flagler College on January 7, 2021, at 7:30 PM.

Distancing and safety protocols will be in place for both artists and the audience. For tickets, advance reservations are encouraged online at firstcoastopera.com or by calling 904-417-5555.

This project is sponsored in part by the Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs, the Florida Council on Arts and Culture, and the State of Florida and the National Endowment for the Arts.
