School of The 16th Century

Presented by Historic Florida Militia at Oldest House Museum Complex

It’s time to make an old event new again. That event is “The School of the Sixteenth Century”.  The Saint Augustine Historical Society has partnered with the Historic Florida Militia to present this years “School” on the beautiful grounds of the Oldest House Museum Complex. (Located at 14 St. Francis Street. Old Town Trolley has a stop directly outside the museum.)  Because of the new venue, we will be able to have a weekend long encampment for this school.  On Friday February 18 all the visitors of the Museum can meet with the living history Interpreters and take in all the sights of the encampment.  See what what life was like in the very beginnings of our city.  “Classes” will be held at the encampment on Saturday Feb 19.  Witness demonstrations of historic weapons, including the crossbow, the matchlock musket, pikes, and edged weapons.  See the clothing, crafts, culinary techniques, and the military and religious practices of that time.  Admission to the museum will be free and open to the public both days.

To commemorate the 503rd Anniversary of the birth of our City’s Founder, Pedro Menendez de Aviles, birthday cake will be served to the public during a special evening event at the Oldest House Museum Complex.  Walk the beautiful grounds of the museum while enjoying some delicious cake.  See the living history interpreters in their finest 16th century clothing.  The cake cutting will be at 6:30pm and will be free and open to the public.
