Swingle Singers

Presented by EMMA Concert Association at Flagler College - Lewis Auditorium

EMMA Concert Association presents the internationally renowned singing sensation The Swingle Singers.

For half a century, the Swingle Singers have pushed the boundaries of what the human voice can achieve. Their vocal agility and blend, combined with captivating showmanship, have thrilled generations of audiences around the globe. Five decades after their pioneering Grammy-winning debut album in 1963, today’s Swingle Singers are an international a cappella (no instrumental accompaniment) phenomenon. The seven young and versatile voices deliver fugues and folk ballads with equal precision and passion, keeping the classic Swingle sound alive while fearlessly exploring new styles and approaches.   The history of the Swingle Singers is a remarkable tale of renewal. In 1963, American-born Ward Swingle assembled a group of Parisian session singers to sing some of Bach’s keyboard music. The resulting album, Jazz Sebastian Bach, launched the group to fame. 5 Grammy Awards later, the group’s trademark sound is recognizable worldwide and is used frequently on television (The West Wing, Sex in the City, Miami Vice, Glee) and in movies (Thank You for Smoking, Wedding Crashers, Milk). Now based in London, the Swingle Singers have sustained a level of international renown beyond its founder’s wildest dreams.

The current group of 7 singers (two sopranos, one alto, two tenors, baritone, and bass) include Joanna Goldsmith-Eteson , Sara Brimer , Clare Wheeler, Oliver Griffiths, Christopher Jay, Kevin Fox, and Edward Randell. Fresh from celebrating their 50th anniversary, the Swingle Singers continue to explore the full possibilities of the voice and to create new, innovative, surprising music.
