The Woolworth counter was the site of a sit-in protest against segregation, in which a number of young students participated and were arrested. Those arrested were offered their freedom in exchange for a promise that they would no longer participate in the movement. Four of these students, later known as the St. Augustine Four, refused to sign their rights to protest away and were sent to reform schools as punishment. The counter was recently added to the Lincolnville Museum’s exhibits and will be on view at the dedication ceremony from 10-11 AM at the Lincolnville Museum and Cultural Center at 102 Martin Luther King Ave.

This event is free and open to the public. Parking is available in front of the museum and along Pomar Street. Paid parking is available across the street. The LMCC is an accessible building.
