St. Augustine St. Patrick's Day Parade

Presented by Romanza at Downtown St. Augustine

The luck o' the Irish be with you at the St. Augustine St. Patrick's Day Parade, an annual celebration of the Emerald Isle's most revered saint. Lads and lasses from throughout Georgia and Florida, Savannah to Sarasota and beyond converge upon the Ancient City each year, donning their best greens.

Did you know that the wearin' o' the green was outlawed in the 18th century England. Seen as a form of rebellion, wearing of shamrocks was a crime punishable by hanging. Irish folklore holds that St. Patrick used the three-leafed shamrock to explain the Christian doctrine of the Trinity to Irish polytheists. Patrick was born into a wealthy family and kidnapped from Roman Britain by Irish raiders in the fourth century. He eventually escaped back home, but returned in 432 to help Christianize Ireland.

Today, St. Patricks Day parades are celebrated around the world - this one is a favorite part of the annual St. Augustine Celtic Festival, March 14, 2015 at 10 a.m. So bring your best mates and have a craic.
