Peter and Patricia DeWitt play classical instruments from the Renaissance and Baroque Periods.
Peter and Patricia DeWitt bring instruments like recorders viola da gamba, and harpsichord from the Renaissance Period (15th & 16th centuries) and in the Baroque (17th & 18th centuries).
In the Renaissance, vocal music was predominant, including sacred motets, masses, secular madrigals, and chansons. Instrumental music at that time was patterned after vocal models or was developed from dance. In the Baroque, instrumental music became more independent, taking on distinctive forms of its own. Peter & Pat will illustrate these trends using music by composers such as Isaac, Senfl, Ortiz, Cabezon, and the ever-popular Anonymous from the Renaissance and Frescobaldi, Scarlatti, Bach, and Handel from the Baroque.
This free program will be held at The Waterworks on September 20th from 1-2 PM.
