Live from The Waterworks: Doyle Dykes with Ruth Wyand | OCTOBER 22

Presented by St. Johns Cultural Council and Gamble Rogers Folk Festival at The Waterworks

Celebrate the legendary recording artist Gamble Rogers whose balladry and storytelling shaped American folk music. On the third Saturday of each month, a local musician will open for a nationally known act at The Waterworks (184 San Marco Avenue), built in 1898 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

On October 22nd at 7:30 PM, Ruth Wyand opens for Doyle Dykes at the inaugural concert.

Purchase single tickets for this show or a package for admission to shows on November 19th (Jim Carrick and Charley Simmons with Charlie Robertson) and December 17th (Michael Reno Harrell and Bob Patterson).

Packages include one ticket to each of the three shows in the Fall series, a complimentary beverage at each show, and sponsor recognition in the event program.

Proceeds from the concert series will support the annual Gamble Rogers Music Festival, a key three-day event held in the Spring and in its 27h year.

ABOUT RUTH WYAND
Demonstrating guitar virtuosity with powerful fingerpicking, bottleneck slide, and a warm alto voice, Ruth presents a mix of poignant originals and well-crafted arrangements of classics from Doc Watson, Etta Baker, Miles Davis, Leo Kottke to Thelonious Monk. An authentic performer, songwriter, guitarist, and storyteller, her songwriting is a melting pot of styles with lyrics that are timeless, relatable, and sometimes witty, but always human and genuine.

A soulful and engaging storyteller, she'll tell you all about her sometimes hilarious, sometimes scary tales of life on the road. She says, "After 100 years of playing everywhere from biker bars, nudist colonies, and haunted theaters in New Zealand, there’s not much I haven't seen.”

ABOUT DOYLE DYKES
Although influenced by a wide variety of musical styles and musicians from the country of Chet Atkins, to the rock & roll of Duane Eddy and the Beatles, Doyle Dykes has developed a distinct, recognizable sound that amazes audiences while capturing hearts with sincerity and soul. He is considered one of the best fingerstylists today for his exceptional skill, imaginative arrangements, and virility.

Doyle’s early years as a guitarist took him around the world as he toured with The Stamps Quartet and later with Grand Ole Opry Star Grandpa Jones. Doyle has since returned to the Grand Ole Opry for numerous performances, many appearing live on national television.
