Poetry Flows from The Waterworks: National Women's History Month | March 26

Presented by Ancient City Poets and St. Johns Cultural Council at The Waterworks

During the month of March, celebrate all of the amazing accomplishments of strong, determined women. Since 1987, the United States has formally recognized March as National Women’s History Month. Every woman has a story to tell and gifts to share with the world.

Share a poem about a woman who inspires you. Not only will the reading celebrate Women’s History Month, but it will also kick off National Poetry Month (April). Poets and poetry fans will gather on Sunday, March 26th from 2:30-5 PM at the Waterworks (184 San Marco Avenue, across from the Main Branch of the St. Johns County Library). Poets of all skill levels are given an opportunity to share their poems with a loving and supportive audience.

The Ancient City Poets series has always been open to the public. There is no charge at the door and no charge to get your name on the list to read. If you would like to share a poem, please see the facilitator at 2:30 to get your name on the list, on the day of the event. There is space for 15 poets at 5 minutes each. At 3 PM, the readers will be called to the podium in the order their names appear on the sign-up sheet by this month's facilitator Amy Goldin.

The 2023 winner of the ROWITA Awards will also be acknowledged. Each year the St. Johns Cultural Council recognizes women who have profoundly influenced the artistic environment of St. Johns County with the Dr. Gail Pflaster ROWITA (“Recognizing Outstanding Women in the Arts”) Awards.

The theme is meant as a writing prompt and it is your choice if you want to follow the theme or not. Present two or three of your polished poems or share fresh ink from your notebook. Invite a friend or two or three to cheer you on. Let your poetic words flow through the Waterworks and through the streets of St. Augustine.
