Fort Mose Jazz & Blues Series: Rhiannon Giddens

Presented by Fort Mose Historical Society and St. Johns County Cultural Events Division and St. Johns Cultural Council at Fort Mose Historic State Park

In February 2023, Fort Mose Historic State Park will be the host of the second annual Fort Mose Jazz & Blues Series to honor the history and cultural significance of Fort Mose. The Fort Mose Jazz & Blues Series will comprise six unforgettable performances over two weeks from some of the biggest names in Jazz, Blues, R&B, and Soul.

The acclaimed musician Rhiannon Giddens uses her art to excavate the past and reveal bold truths about our present. A MacArthur “Genius Grant” recipient, Giddens co-founded the Grammy Award-winning Carolina Chocolate Drops, and she has been nominated for six additional Grammys for her work as a soloist and collaborator.

She was most recently nominated for her collaboration with multi-instrumentalist Francesco Turrisi, there is no Other (2019). Giddens’s latest album, They’re Calling Me Home, is a twelve-track album, recorded with Turrisi in Ireland during the recent lockdown; it speaks of the longing for the comfort of home as well as the metaphorical “call home” of death, which has been a tragic reality for so many during the COVID-19 crisis.

Rhiannon Giddens will perform at Fort Mose Historic State Park on February 18th at 7 PM for the Jazz & Blues Fest. Tickets start at $42 and are available to purchase here.

The Fort Mose Jazz & Blues Series is produced by the St. Johns County Cultural Events Division, which operates The St. Augustine Amphitheatre and Ponte Vedra Concert Hall, with support from St. Johns County Tourist Development Council, St. Augustine Distillery, St. Johns Cultural Council, Fort Mose Historical Society, and Flying Saucer Presents.
