A play by Jay Presson Allen from the words and works of Truman Capote.
Don't miss this special production and collaboration with Limelight Theatre co-founder Jean Rahner, who directs the play, and actor Jan Peter Buksar, who plays Truman Capote. Based on the writings and works of an inimitable 20th-century author, this one-man play is written by Jay Presson Allen (1922-2006), a prolific American screenwriter, playwright, stage director, television producer, and novelist.
Rahner, who directed this play previously, is eager to approach it again in collaboration with Buksar and explore the intellect and pathos of the brilliant yet troubled author of such famed works as Breakfast at Tiffany's, A Christmas Memory and the ground-breaking novel in the True Crime genre, In Cold Blood.
Allen's script introduces us to Capote at a low point—suffering from booze and pills and the loss of his longtime friends, who felt betrayed when excerpts from his unfinished novel Answered Prayers were printed in "Esquire." As a writer, Capote had an uncanny ability to befriend and elicit intimate details from people from all walks of life. Onstage, Capote explains how and why he is able to connect with people, extract their deepest, darkest secrets and incorporate these details into his published works.
