In recognition of Black History Month, the American Association of University Women St. Augustine Branch has assembled five Black women from St. Augustine to speak about their diverse life experiences on Thursday, February 9, at 11:30 AM at the Lincolnville Museum and Cultural Center. The public is encouraged to attend the free forum.

After the discussion at 12:30 PM, there will be a luncheon catered by Roux Organics, a newly opened breakfast/ brunch café in Lincolnville. The charge for the luncheon is $20. Reservations with a check should be sent to Karen Hayes, 361 Hefferon Dr, St. Augustine, by Friday, February 3. Click here to browse the menu.

The local AAUW branch offers scholarships each year to local college or university students, male or female, who are residents of St. Johns County. The branch also sponsors 8th graders from St. Johns County middle schools to attend the AAUW Florida Tech Trek camp for girls. In addition, this year the branch held a Human Trafficking Awareness and Prevention Panel Discussion for the public. Monies for their initiatives are raised by the annual LUNAFEST festival that will be held at the Lincolnville Museum on Saturday, April 15.

The American Association of University Women (AAUW) is the nation's leading voice promoting equity and education for women and girls. Since its founding in 1881, AAUW members have examined and taken positions on the fundamental issues of the day — educational, social, economic, and political. Information about the St. Augustine branch is available at www.staugustine-fl.aauw.net. Membership information can be obtained from Maxine Burns, Director for Membership, at 847-917-6350 or mmburns@yahoo.com.
