Summer Art Camp

Summer Art Camp

Presented by St. Augustine Art Association at St. Augustine Art Association

In this year's Art Camps -- sponsored by Hyundai of St. Augustine -- students will explore a variety of mediums and techniques to encourage art appreciation and critical thinking, as well as allow students to experiment with their own creativity.

"First Things First: Draw It" - June 5-9 • 9 AM-noon: Drawing is a key skill for a developing artist. Students will begin using pencils, charcoal, pen and ink, and black fine-tipped markers to observe elements of nature. Once students have practiced our drawings, they will learn how to use paints in both realistic and abstract designs. (Recommended for ages 6-10 and 11-14.)

"Limited Edition" - June 12-16 • 9 AM-noon: Printmaking and Patterns. Color and Design. Students will be introduced to different printmaking techniques including etching, Lino cutting, and eco-printing. They'll learn how to design stamp patterns and how different materials create different effects. By the end of the week, they'll have their own series(es) of limited-edition prints! (Recommended for ages 6-10 and 11-14.)

"Hot Wheels" - July-10-14 • 9 AM-noon: Draw inspiration from the Lightner Museum's Ride On! exhibit of Bicycles. Thinking of bicycles in the past, present and future, campers will create both 2D and 3D works of art utilizing materials like watercolor paints, cardboard, wire, and more. Use both artistic and engineering brains in this unique camp that celebrates all things bike! (Recommended for ages 6-10.)

"My Point of View" - July-17-21 • 9 AM-noon: Taking notes and finding inspiration from William Henry Jackson's photo exhibition at the Lightner Museum, students will study the basics of photography and learn how to use camera tools and settings to capture their own points of view. Excursions through the Museum and around Historic Downtown will give students time to practice with a camera and hone their composition skills. (Recommended for ages 11-14.)
