"Triangle of Sadness" Screening

Presented by St. Augustine Film Society at Temple Bet Yam

In Ruben Östlund's wickedly funny Palme d'Or winner "Triangle of Sadness", social hierarchy is turned upside down, revealing the tawdry relationship between power and beauty. The two main characters named Carl and Yaya, a model and an influencer get invited to attend a trip on a luxury cruise ship alongside a group of out-of-touch wealthy people. When they are on the yacht their trip takes an unexpected turn when a brutal storm hits the ship.

The film is primarily about economic systems and the roles people have within those systems, think "Lord of the Flies" for adults. There is a lot to unpack about the relative merits of capitalism, socialism, and meritocracy which should lead to lively discussions.
