Did you know? Nine recorded ships carrying over 1200 Africans arrived in St. Augustine from 1767 to 1776.
In honor of UNESCO International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition, the Lincolnville Museum & Cultural Center invites you to the St. Augustine Remembrance Ceremony to commemorate the two million African ancestors who perished during the transatlantic human trade route, known as the Middle Passage, and the ten million who survived to build the Americas.
On Wednesday, August 23rd, African drumming and Native American smudging begin at 4:45 PM, and the ceremony is from 5-5:30 PM at the Gazebo in the Plaza de la Constitucion.
This event is sponsored by the St. Photios Foundation and the St. Johns Cultural Council.
