Set in 1902, Daughters of the Dust tells the story of three generations of Gullah women in the Peazant family on Saint Helena Island, South Carolina as they prepare to migrate off the island, out of the Southern United States, and into the North.

This award-winning independent film was written, directed, and produced by Julie Dash, and was the first feature film by an African-American woman to be distributed theatrically in the US.

Daughters of the Dust will be screened at the Hastings Public Library on December 1st at 6 PM.
